Endothelin-1 inhibits endothelin-converting enzyme-1 expression in cultured rat pulmonary endothelial cells.
BACKGROUND The lung expresses large amounts of endothelin-converting enzyme-1 (ECE-1), which catalyzes a step in the biosynthesis of potent vasoactive endothelin-1 (ET-1) from the inactive intermediate big ET-1. Because there has been no report concerning a possible relationship between ET-1 and ECE-1, we investigated the effects of ET-1 on ECE-1 expression in cultured rat pulmonary endothelial...
متن کاملGene expression of endothelin-1, endothelin-converting enzyme-1, and endothelin receptors in human epididymis.
We have previously reported the presence of endothelin-1 (ET-1) and its receptors in the human testis. In the present study we extended our investigations to human epididymis. The rationale of our study originated from the fact that sperm appear to be immotile during their transit through the epididymis. Hence, it is conceivable that specific factors, unknown to date, are present in this organ,...
متن کاملLuteolin inhibits endothelin-1 secretion in cultured endothelial cells.
We discovered that luteolin, a typical flavonoid contained in various kinds of plants, inhibits the secretion and gene expression of endothelin-1 (ET-1), a potent vasoconstrictor regulating blood pressure, in porcine aortic endothelial cells. Its ED50 was about 10 microM. In addition, the inhibition of ET-1 by a glycoside compound of luteolin (luteolin-6-C-glucoside) was weak.
متن کاملExpression of endothelin-1, endothelin-converting enzyme, and endothelin receptors in chronic heart failure.
BACKGROUND Elevated plasma levels of endothelin (ET)-1 have been reported in association with heart diseases, including heart failure. Furthermore, it has been suggested that ET-1 acts as a local autocrine/paracrine factor with biological activities such as vasoconstriction, mitogenesis, and inotropic effects on the heart. This study investigated alterations of ET-1, ET receptor, and endothelin...
متن کاملPreeclamptic serum enhances endothelin-converting enzyme expression in cultured endothelial cells.
Increased vascular sensitivity to vasoconstrictors, such as angiotensin II and epinephrine, is observed in preeclampsia (PE). Recently, it was suggested that abnormal endothelial function might contribute to the pathophysiologic changes in PE. We investigated vasoconstrictor (angiotensin II and epinephrine)-induced endothelin-1 (ET-1) release from human umbilical vein endothelial cells incubate...
